Mrs. Treva Chambers Kerney, age 82, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and formerly of this area, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Harmony at Victory Station in Murfreesboro.
Mrs. Kerney was born on October 16, 1943, in South Fulton, Tennessee to the late Hall Chambers and Sallie Hunter Chambers.
Treva accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Bells Chapel CME Church in Fulton, Kentucky. During her years in Chicago, Illinois, she also worshiped and served at Allen Metropolitan CME Church. Her faith, kindness, and warm spirit were evident to everyone who knew her.
She dedicated many years of her life to education and was a beloved teacher at Jesse Owens Community Academy in Chicago. Treva was passionate about inspiring young minds and took great pride in the success of her students. She was an active member of Phi Delta Kappa Teachers Society and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Treva was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved painting and drawing, working with ceramics, and expressing her creativity through art. She also enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Las Vegas, and never missed an opportunity to go shopping with family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Paul Haiwatha Kerney, whom she married on July 5, 1961; one beloved daughter, Gina Britton (Homer) V of Antioch, Tennessee; and one cherished grandson, Homer C. Britton VI of Houston, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Will E. Chambers and Harold Chambers.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 AM until the hour of service.
