Robert "Bobby" E. Jones

Robert E. "Bobby" Jones, age 71, of South Fulton, Tennessee passed away Monday, September 7, 2026, at the Jackson-Madison County Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

He was born January 7, 1955, in Cleveland, Ohio, to James Robert Jones and Dorothy LeCornu Johnson. He was raised in Weakley County, Tennessee, in the Dukedom, Latham, and Palmersville communities, where he developed the love of hard work, family, animals, and the outdoors that remained with him throughout his life.

Bobby was a farmer at heart and also worked in maintenance at Turner Dairy. He was happiest when he was busy—building something out of wood, tending a garden, planting flowers or trees, or simply finding something outdoors that needed to be done.

But more than anything else, family was everything to Bobby.

He made sure his family came first, and taking care of people was simply part of who he was. He always took care of "his girls". Then along came the first boy, bringing a whole new kind of joy to his life. Bobby loved playing with him during those treasured unexpected surprise visits.

His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought him profound love, pride, and happiness. Of all the roles Bobby held throughout his life, perhaps none was more treasured, rewarding, or exciting to him than being "Papa". Being Papa was one of his greatest joys. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren held an incredibly special place in his heart, and the love and happiness they brought into his life were immeasurable.

If Bobby loved you, there was also a good chance he had a nickname for you. Everybody seemed to have one, and each nickname came with its on story and memories.

Bobby had an extraordinary love for animals. I didn't seem to matter what kind of animal crossed his path—he had a soft spot for them all. His special way with animals earned him the affectionate "Dr. Dolittle" from many who knew him.

There were other sides to Bobby that not everyone got to see. He was a talented cook, although he managed to keep that skill a secret from quite a few people. He loved Westerns, whether he was reading one or watching one on television.

Some of the best stories came from the adventures Bobby shared with his brother, Mike (known as "Doughboy"). The two spent countless hours together over the years, including hauling cattle, and those trips produced enough stories, laughter, and memories to last a lifetime.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Jones and Dorothy LeCornu Johnson; his beloved wife, Linda Powell Jones; his daughter, Stacy Jones; and his brothers, Mike Jones and Dennis Jones; his sister, Linda Cherry. He was also blessed to have a special relationship with his in-laws, Gerald and Mattie Powell, who held a very special place in his life.

He leaves behind his daughter, Lori (Bruce) Atterberry of Fulton, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Jessica (Blake) Anderson of Troy, Tennessee, Erika (Michael) Scott of Wiscasset, Maine, and Brianna Stairs of Fulton, Kentucky; and his great-grandchildren, Karlee Argo, Maddi Kaye Anderson, and Bowden Scott, and a sister-in-law Joyce King Jones of McConnell, Tennessee, along with family and friends who will carry his memories with them.

Bobby's legacy will be found in the family he loved fiercely, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy, the animals he befriended, the things he built and repaired with his own two hands, the gardens he tended, the meals he quietly knew how to cook, and the countless ordinary ways he showed up for people.

Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Jones will be held at 2PM Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton with burial to follow in the Obion County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12Noon Friday until the hour of service.
