Rev. James Edward Lawson, age 92, of Fulton, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Born on December 9, 1933, in Fulton County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late James Thomas “Jimmy” Lawson and Mabel Hodges Lawson.
Rev. Lawson faithfully served for more than 60 years in ministry, dedicating his life to the spiritual care of congregations throughout western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee. He pastored several churches during his distinguished service, including Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian Church in South Fulton, Tennessee, where he was also a devoted member; Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Murray, Kentucky; Bethlehem Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Union City, Tennessee; Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Bayou de Chien Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Water Valley, Kentucky; Vaughn's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Possum Trot, Unity Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hardin and Shady Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Wingo, KY. In addition to his pastoral leadership, he frequently assisted other congregations by serving as a guest minister and conducting revival services throughout the region.
Outside of ministry, Rev. Lawson was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He worked in the parts department at Paul Nailing Implement Company and was also employed as a carpenter with Highland Lumber Company. A graduate of the former Cayce High School, he was a proud member of the school's basketball team.
Rev. Lawson enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially bird hunting and crappie fishing. He also had a lifelong passion for collecting International Harvester Farmall tractors, a hobby that reflected his deep appreciation for agriculture and rural life. His unwavering faith, commitment to service, and love for family, friends, and community left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, LaDonna Lawson Moorehead (Henry Jr.) of Hickory Flat, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Krista Williamson (Craig) of Mooreville, Mississippi, and Josh Moorehead of Starkville, Mississippi; three great-grandchildren, Macy Moorehead of New Albany, Mississippi, and Levi and Julia Williamson, both of Mooreville, Mississippi; and one brother, Tommy Lawson of South Fulton, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Lawson was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Anne Allen Lawson; his son, Jimmy Lawson; his brother, Billy Lawson; and his sister, Elwanda Lawson.
Funeral services for Rev. James Lawson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, in the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday.
Rev. Lawson will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his love for family, and the lasting impact he made through his ministry and service to others.
