Lela Ruth Allen Bloodworth of South Fulton, Tennessee, passed away on July 4, 2011, at the
Obion County Nursing Home. She was eighty-three.
She was born in Obion County, TN, on May 23, 1928, the daughter of Luther Allen and Bethel (Boulton) Allen.
A graduate of South Fulton High School, she later attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. She worked for Henry I. Siegel, drove a bus for South Fulton schools, and was a longtime rural letter carrier in Fulton, Kentucky.
She married Harry Bloodworth in 1949. They were married fifty-four years until his death in 2003.
She is survived by four children: David Bloodworth (Holly), Murray, KY; Vicki Swift, Fulton, KY; Susan Swearingen (Don), Fulton, KY; and Stuart Bloodworth (Amy), Tullahoma, TN.
Her six grandchildren are Tony Bloodworth, Los Angeles, CA; Jason Swift (Emily), Jackson, MO; Jeremy Swift (Rachel), Water Valley, KY; Justin Swift, Water Valley, KY; Jonathan Bloodworth, Tullahoma, TN; and Alexandra Bloodworth, Murray, KY.
Great-grandchildren are Madison and Matthew Swift of Jackson, MO, and Emma, Micah, and Ellie Swift of Water Valley, KY.
She had five siblings, three of whom preceded her in death: Henry Allen, Miami, FL; Alice Austin, Paducah, KY; and Louis Allen, Sierra Vista, AZ. She is survived by a brother, James Allen, Mechanicsville, MD, and a sister, Virginia Lee, Mount Vernon, IL.
A private family service will be held. Public visitation will be at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel from 5-7 pm on Friday, July 8.
