Ms. Jane Wright Scates, 92, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. She was born on August 5, 1933, in Cat Corner, Tennessee, to Robert Preston Wright and Clara Starnes Wright. Jane was the devoted wife of the late Bobby Scates, with whom she shared a loving life filled with family, laughter, and faith. Together they raised three sons: Robert Stanley Scates (deceased), Charles Gregory Scates (Kerrie) of Edmond, Oklahoma, and James Jeffrey Scates (Theresa) of Nicholasville, Kentucky. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her lots of joy.
Some of Jane’s fondest years were spent in Fulton, Kentucky, where she and Bobby raised their boys. She was an active volunteer in the Boy Scouts, a skilled bridge player, and a gracious hostess known for her cooking and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. She was a devoted Tennessee Volunteers fan—faithful through every season, win or lose. Later in life, Jane moved to Lexington, Kentucky, to be closer to her family. Her home became the beloved gathering place for her famous Friday lunches, where stories, lots of laughter, and love were shared.
Jane’s faith was an enduring part of her life. She was a long-time member of Smith Street Church of Christ in South Fulton, Tennessee, and later a member of Southside Church of Christ in Lexington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby; her son, Robert Stanley Scates; and her six siblings: Robert Jewell Ford, Dorothy Ellis, James Wright, Marjorie Lane, Clifford Wright, and Betty May. Jane will be remembered for her kind heart, laughter, steady faith, and the love she poured into her family and friends.
Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched. A Family interment will be held in the Palestine Cemetery at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 9.
