Ms. Jane Burnette, age 86, of Mayfield, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Jane was born on October 28, 1939, in a log cabin in Shelbyville, Kentucky, to the late Virgil Charles Wheeler Sr. and Elizabeth Adams Wheeler. She was married to the late George Burnette, with whom she shared many wonderful years as both life partners and business partners. Together, they owned and operated Estate and Pension Services, Inc. in Mayfield, where Jane served as office manager for many years.
A devoted member of the Mayfield First Christian Church, Jane was actively involved in her community throughout her life. She served as a Girl Scout leader, belonged to the Garden Club, and was an enthusiastic bridge player. She was also a former member of the Purchase Players Theater Group and the Welcome Wagon, and she volunteered her time at J.U. Kevil in Mayfield. Among her many joys, Jane especially cherished traveling alongside her beloved husband, George.
Jane is survived by three daughters: Beth Burnette of Mayfield, KY; Teresa (Terry) Bohannon of Benton, KY; and Gail (Mike) Newman of Chattanooga, TN. She is also lovingly remembered by seven grandchildren: Claire (James) Burgett of Paducah, KY; Grant Walker and Jordan Walker, both of Mayfield, KY; Mitchel Bohannon of Huntsville, AL; Lena (Jake) Tindell of Benton, KY; and Tyler (Promise) Newman and Cole Newman, both of Chattanooga, TN. Additionally, she leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Makenzie Burgett, Allie Tindell, Tilly Tindell, Forrest Newman, and River Bohannon.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Charles Wheeler Jr. and Stephen Wheeler, and one sister, Dolly Brinkmeyer.
Graveside services for Ms. Jane Burnette will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Union Cemetery in Fulton. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday, beginning at 12:30 PM and continuing until departure for the graveside service.
The family requests memorials to St. Jude or the Union Cemetery fund.
