Mr. Charles Wayne Terrett, age 80, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Mercy Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY.
Charlie was born on July 22, 1944 in Fulton County, KY to the late Dorothy McMurry Terrett and George Benton (G.B) Terrett.
Charlie Terrett was as "homegrown Hickman" as they come. Born and raised on the banks of the Mississippi River, he devoted his life to this community. His passion was to help others reach their highest potential and was able to do this by dedicating 31 years to the Fulton County School System; 28 years of this were serving in administration roles as Elementary Principal, High School Principal, Transportation Director, DPP, Assistant Superintendent, and his final 10 years as Superintendent of Schools. Anyone who knew Charlie would say he was full of determination and grit and he channeled this to ensure the students under his care would believe they could do great things because HE believed in each and every one of them. Upon retirement, Charlie prided himself in becoming a KC Certified Barbeque Judge because he got free barbeque.
Charlie was fascinated with anything WWII. From getting to fly a B-52 Bomber (as a gift) to watching all the documentaries, he loved every aspect of history. Along with this, Charlie had a heart of gold and loved his family deeply. The second youngest of 7 children, he was always there to make sure everyone was taken care of. He also had the best sense of humor and wonderful smile, from making crazy pizza concoctions with friends to being the life of the party.
Charlie was always up to something. When he met his wife, Cyndy, he thought her name was "Diane", and Cyndy didn't mind because she was star struck by his baby blues. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage. Though Charlie has left this earth physically, his memory will live on through his five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two daughters that have his same stubborn spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Cyndy, two daughters; Carolyn Terrett (Darren) Byrd of Fulton, KY and Carla Terrett Hawkins of Colorado Springs, CO, five grandchildren: Gracie Byrd and Cameron Byrd both of Fulton, KY, Samantha Johnston of South Fulton, TN, Samuel Hawkins and Isaac Hawkins both of Colorado Springs, CO, two great grandchildren: Cason Johnston and Corbin Johnston both of South Fulton, TN, three sisters: Martha Sue Stalions of Smithland, KY, Julia Davis and Betty Abernathy both of Hickman, KY and three brothers: George Benton "Sonny" Terrett II of Hickman, KY, Joseph Edward Terrett of Woodland Mills, TN and Ben Terrett of Hickman, KY.
A memorial visitation for Mr. Charlie Terrett will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 5-8PM at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Hickman.
Memorials may be made to Fulton County Pilots Academy, Joey Bumpus Memorial Scholarship Fund or Maurice Tucker Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Ellen Murphy, 2740 Moscow Ave, Hickman, KY 42050.
