Betty Vowell

Mrs. Betty Vowell, age 84, of South Fulton, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Brookdale Memory Care in Jackson, Tennessee.

She was born on May 13, 1941, in Union City, Tennessee, to the late Raymond Johnson and Ruth Elizabeth Kirk Johnson.

Mrs. Vowell was a devoted member of Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She retired in 2003 after 29 years and 5 months of service as a secretary at South Fulton Elementary School.

She is survived by her daughter, Paige Pagter of Alpharetta, Georgia; two sons, Tab (Tracey) Vowell of Jackson, Tennessee, and Tim Vowell of Spring Lake, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Carolyn Raines of Michigan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy “Jim” Vowell; two sisters, Mary Corum and June Oaks; and one brother, John Johnson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vowell will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton, with burial to follow in Eastside Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service on Saturday.
