Barbara Crass

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Wife, and Meme (Grandmother), Barbara Crass.

Mrs. Barbara Ann "Meme" Crass, age 87, of South Fulton, TN passed away Monday, August 3, 2026 at her daughters residence.

She was born on September 2, 1938 in Mayfield, KY to the late Ruble F. Thomas and Anna Lou Shelton.

To know her was to love her. She never met a stranger, and if you were fortunate enough to cross her path, chances are she invited you to call her “Meme.” It didn’t matter whether you were family, a friend, or someone she had just met—she loved everyone like they were one of her own grandchildren. Her heart was open, her smile was genuine, and her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Barbara was a devoted gospel singer whose faith was the foundation of her life. She found great joy in lifting her voice in praise, and through every song she shared hope, comfort, and the love of the Lord. She sang with the gospel group Darrel and the Chapelettes, sharing her gift and her faith with many. Her music touched countless lives and reflected the unwavering devotion she carried every day.

She was a woman of many talents and strong work ethic. Alongside her beloved husband, Darrel, she was a part owner and bookkeeper at Hickman Auto Parts. She later served as an advertising manager at WKZT Radio Station, where her dedication and professionalism left a lasting impression on those she worked with.

Barbara was a long-time and faithful member of Bayou de Chien Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Water Valley, Kentucky, where her faith continued to grow and where she found strength, fellowship, and purpose.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darrel Crass; her son, Dwayne Crass; her grandson, Tyler Jones; her brother, James Howard Thomas; and her parents, Anna Lou Thomas and Ruble Thomas. Though she carried these losses in her heart, she remained a source of strength, encouragement, and love to all who knew her. We find comfort in knowing they are now reunited.

She is survived by her three daughters: Darla Tucker of Wingo, Kentucky; Denise McGrath of Clinton, Kentucky; and Dawn Robertson (John) of South Fulton, Tennessee, and daughter-in-law Diane Crass of Clinton, Kentucky. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, along with one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild on the way—each of whom carries a piece of her love forward. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Barbara had a special way of brightening every room she entered. She had a contagious laugh, a warm embrace, and a spirit that made people feel seen, valued, and loved. While she was gentle and compassionate, she also had a spunky side that kept everyone smiling. Her quick wit, playful personality, and joyful spirit made her unforgettable.

Her legacy is one of faith, love, generosity, and unwavering kindness. The countless lives she touched will forever carry pieces of her with them. Though our hearts are broken by her absence, we rejoice in knowing that she is now singing in the presence of her Savior, reunited with the love of her life and all those who went before her.

Barbara’s memory will live on in every act of kindness, every gospel hymn sung from the heart, and every life she made brighter simply by being herself. She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1PM Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Bayou de Chein Cumberland Church. Visitation will be held at the Bayou de Chein Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 11AM Saturday, August 15, 2026 until the hour of service.
